How Weather and Time Work in Pokopia
Pokopia has two systems that control which Pokemon appear in your habitats: weather and time of day. Most of the 303 Pokemon spawn regardless of conditions, but a handful of rare and desirable species only appear under specific weather or time combinations. Understanding these systems is essential for completing your Pokedex.
Weather Types
Pokopia has three weather states:
| Weather | Default? | Effect on Pokemon | Effect on Crops | |---------|----------|------------------|-----------------| | Cloudy | Yes (default) | Standard spawns. Most Pokemon appear in Cloudy weather. | Normal growth rate | | Sunny | No (player-activated) | Unlocks sun-exclusive Pokemon like Cacnea | Faster growth for certain crops | | Rain | No (player-activated) | Unlocks rain-exclusive Pokemon like Goomy | Faster growth for water-loving crops |
How to Change the Weather
Weather does not change on its own in Pokopia. You need to build specific habitats to control it:
- Sunny Weather: Build a "Sunny Spot" habitat. Requires 2 Ditto Weather Magic Saucers + designated food offering.
- Rain Weather: Build a "Rain Dance Spot" habitat. Same requirement — 2 Ditto Weather Magic Saucers + a different food offering.
- Back to Cloudy: Remove or deactivate the weather habitat.
Where to get Ditto Weather Magic Saucers: These are crafted items tied to Ditto's transformation abilities. You will encounter the recipe through main story progression. They are not especially rare but do require specific materials from multiple regions.
Important: Weather change affects the entire region where the habitat is placed. You cannot have Sunny and Rainy weather in the same region simultaneously. Plan your habitat layout accordingly.
Time System
Pokopia's clock is synced to your Nintendo Switch 2 system clock in real time:
| Time Period | Real-World Hours | Notable Spawns | |-------------|-----------------|----------------| | Morning | ~6:00 AM - 12:00 PM | Certain bird and grass-type Pokemon | | Day | ~12:00 PM - 5:00 PM | Standard daytime spawns | | Evening | ~5:00 PM - 8:00 PM | Transitional spawns | | Night | ~8:00 PM - 6:00 AM | Nocturnal Pokemon (ghost, dark types) |
Can You Change the Time?
Yes. You can change your Switch 2 system clock to shift the in-game time. The game currently does not penalize or prevent this. If you need a Night-exclusive Pokemon at 2 PM, simply set your system clock to 10 PM, launch the game, and the night spawns will be active.
Note: Changing the system clock may affect other time-sensitive features like daily resets. Use this method sparingly.
Weather-Exclusive Pokemon
These Pokemon only appear under specific weather conditions. Without the correct weather, they will never show up in your habitats no matter how high your Comfort or Environment levels are.
Rain-Exclusive Pokemon
| Pokemon | Rarity | Region | Habitat Type | |---------|--------|--------|-------------| | Goomy | Rare | Withered Wasteland | Swamp/Marsh habitat | | Sliggoo | Very Rare | Withered Wasteland | Evolved swamp habitat | | Goodra | Very Rare | Withered Wasteland | Advanced marsh habitat | | Lotad | Common | Bleak Beach | Water-edge habitat | | Lombre | Uncommon | Bleak Beach | Water garden habitat | | Ludicolo | Rare | Bleak Beach | Festival habitat |
Sunny-Exclusive Pokemon
| Pokemon | Rarity | Region | Habitat Type | |---------|--------|--------|-------------| | Cacnea | Common | Rocky Ridges | Desert habitat | | Cacturne | Rare | Rocky Ridges | Advanced desert habitat | | Cherrim (Sunshine Form) | Rare | Sparkling Skylands | Flower garden habitat | | Castform (Sunny Form) | Rare | Various | Weather station habitat |
Cloudy-Preferred Pokemon
While most Pokemon appear in Cloudy weather, some have higher spawn rates under overcast conditions:
| Pokemon | Rarity | Notes | |---------|--------|-------| | Castform (Normal Form) | Common | Default form in Cloudy weather | | Most standard spawns | Various | Cloudy is the "default" state; majority of the 303 Pokemon are Cloudy-compatible |
Time-Exclusive Pokemon
Some Pokemon only appear during certain time periods:
Night-Only Pokemon
- Ghost-type Pokemon generally prefer Night
- Dark-type Pokemon have increased spawn rates at Night
- Certain evolved forms (community still documenting specifics)
Morning-Only Pokemon
- Early bird Pokemon (Flying types with specific habitat requirements)
- Certain Bug-types with morning activity patterns
Community Note: The exact time-exclusive spawn list is still being documented by the community as of March 2026. Most Pokemon (estimated 85%+) spawn at all times. The time-exclusive species are a small but notable subset.
Region Overview for Spawn Planning
Pokopia has 5 main regions plus a special area. Each region has unique biomes and materials:
| Region | Unlock Order | Unique Biome | Weather Priority | |--------|-------------|-------------|-----------------| | Withered Wasteland | 1st | Swamp, ruins | Rain (for Goomy family) | | Bleak Beach | 2nd | Coastal, tidal | Rain (for Lotad family) | | Rocky Ridges | 3rd | Desert, canyon | Sunny (for Cacnea family) | | Sparkling Skylands | 4th | Cloud, fairy meadow | Sunny (for Cherrim) | | Palette Town | Sandbox | Player's creative zone | Your choice | | Dream Islands | Special | Dreamscape | Independent system |
Tips for Finding Rare Weather-Exclusive Spawns
1. Build the Weather Habitat First
Before constructing habitats for weather-exclusive Pokemon, make sure you have the weather-changing habitat active in that region. Building a Swamp habitat in Withered Wasteland does nothing for Goomy if the weather is still Cloudy.
2. Maximize Comfort and Environment Levels
Weather-exclusive Pokemon still require their habitat to meet minimum Comfort and Environment thresholds. A Rain-active region with a low-Comfort marsh habitat will not attract Goomy. Upgrade your habitat quality first.
3. Use Pokemon with Search Skills
Assign Pokemon with the Search skill to your habitats. They passively increase the discovery rate of new Pokemon in adjacent habitats, including weather-exclusive ones.
4. Check Dream Islands
Dream Islands operate on an independent system and occasionally feature weather-exclusive Pokemon without requiring weather changes in the main regions. Visit regularly.
5. The Porygon Exception
Porygon's habitat (Scientific Experiment Stand) requires 230 Pokemon registered in your Pokedex before you can build it. This is the single hardest unlock in the game and is not weather-dependent — it is purely a completion gate.
Spawn Condition Data Structure
Every Pokemon in Pokopia has the following spawn attributes:
- Rarity: Common, Rare, or Very Rare
- Weather: Sunny, Cloudy, Rain, or All
- Time: Morning, Day, Evening, Night, or All
- Region: Which of the 5 regions (+ Dream Islands) it appears in
- Required Habitat: Specific habitat type needed
- Comfort Requirement: Minimum habitat Comfort level
- Environment Requirement: Minimum habitat Environment level
For most Pokemon, Weather and Time are set to "All" — meaning they appear regardless of conditions. The exceptions listed in this guide are the ones worth planning around.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does weather affect crop growth? A: Yes. Weather independently influences plant growth rates. Sunny weather speeds up certain crops while Rain benefits others.
Q: Can I have different weather in different regions? A: Yes. Weather is per-region. You can have Rain in Withered Wasteland and Sunny in Rocky Ridges simultaneously.
Q: Do the Legendary Dogs (Raikou, Entei, Suicune) require specific weather? A: The Legendary Beasts have randomized spawn conditions and multi-step unlock requirements that go beyond simple weather or time settings. They are among the hardest Pokemon to obtain in the game.
Q: How many Pokemon are weather-exclusive total? A: Approximately 10-15 Pokemon have strict weather requirements. The vast majority of the 303 Pokemon spawn under any weather condition.
